Shady
Dell Speed Shop
Welcome to Shady Dell Speed Shop’s new home on the
internet. Here at Shady Dell Speed Shop all we do is small block
Chrysler cylinder head porting/engine development work. We are a small
shop, located in the heart of central Pennsylvania, close to Penn State
University. Both the shop owner, and the shop’s chief cylinder head
porter are PSU alumni. To the best of our knowledge we are the only shop
in the world that has devoted itself to only working on the small block
Chrysler LA/A/Magnum series of engines.
1/10/06 UPDATED SHOP INFO
Well winter is again upon
us, i.e. the "busy" season for racing engine building and cylinder head
porting. Please be aware that since this is our busiest time of year, it
may take longer than normal for any and all emails, and phone messages
to be returned. PLEASE BE PATIENT. It may take several days for email or
calls to be returned depending on the level of inquires that particular
day. If you call and don't get an answer, LEAVE A MESSAGE, either Ryan or
Dave will return your call ASAP. One of us listens to every message we
get and make our best effort to return every phone message. On
emails.... We often get emails especially from out of the Country, that
are NON RETURNABLE addresses... if you send us an email and you never
get a reply, this does not mean you are being ignored, it means either
we did not receive your email due to technical difficulties OR in most
cases our reply has been returned to us due to a technical issue on your
end. I personally reply to EVERY email we receive. So if you do not get
a reply within 7 days, try again, still no response, you should assume
your email has fatal errors and should call the shop and ask to speak to
Ryan in person. I just ask that people be patient, We get alot of calls
and emails every day, and I am the one who 98% of the time has the
answers to the tech questions, so I am doing all the customer relations
and I just need people to realize I only have so much time in a day to
talk to various people. So just be aware, it can take some time to get
ahold of me to have your questions answered, but once you get ahold of
me I will be more than willing to spend all the time necessary to go
over your combo/concerns.
Please take the time to browse around the website, it has recently been
updated with over 160 new pics added, new flow info for Commando heads,
W8 heads, W7 heads, INDY CNC heads, Edelbrock Magnums, CNC W5's, updated
and expanded detailed price list, etc. Please browse around and take a
look at all the new features and info. We are constantly working on new
engine and cylinder head projects and will try to update the website
with new pics and info every 6 months or so. Please note the changes to
the price list, I have tried to make a detailed explanation of what
every stage of porting consists of for the various heads, and some
prices have changed slightly, we are now offering some new levels of
porting that were not previously available to satisfy the needs of more
customers.
I am excited to announce that our new building will be operational in
January/February of 2006. We have been making many changes here at the
shop including new equipment purchases that allow us to do more work in
house. A couple of the big ones I am particularly excited about are the
addition of a new seat & guide machine and the SuperFlow engine dyno.
The dyno should be operational in Fall/Winter 2006, the dyno cell is
nearing completion with the new building. The dyno will allow us to do
in house dyno testing R&D. Currently we use an outside shop in
Mechanicsburg, PA for all our dyno testing.
In the future I plan on expanding both our wetflow and dry airflow
testing equipment. We plan on building a new flowbench capable of
pulling 40-50 inches of vacuum at 400 cfm, and adding a Mondello wetflow
system. Also we are planning on doing computer models of velocity maps
in the near future, along with adding several new CNC programs to our
head porting options, including an LA Edelbrock, a W2, and a W9 program,
and possibly Magnum R/T depending on level of interest.
We are currently doing more and more engine work, including complete race
engine builds and this is also something I want to expand on in the
future, the new building will include a state of the art engine assembly
clean room, with most of our focus on higher end W5,W7, W8, and W9 type
race engines. We will still do the occasional Edelbrock head, etc street
engine, but I would like for us to specialize in the exotics. We have
purchased an 18 bolt BHJ torque plate and the biggest news for the
engine building section is the addition of a RMC CNC block machining
center to our local machinist, Rodland's Crank Grinding Service, in
Warriors Mark, PA just a few miles down the road. All of our blocks are
now being done on this machine, it indexes the bore centers
automatically, leaves the smoothest RA finish on an iron deck possible,
we can bush both 48 degree and 59 degree lifter bores, can lighten the
race blocks etc. I am very excited at this addition to Paul's shop, as
it will only escalate the level of machine work on our race motors, and
it has decreased machining time drastically. The blocks are finish honed
with a Rottler diamond hone. All of our rotating assembly's are now
being balanced to within .1 Gram on a Hines computerized balancing
machine. We are constantly working with our machinists to achieve the
highest level of work possible. I will try to add some pics of the CNC
machine, the crank balancer etc in the future.
I am also pleased to be working in conjunction with BCR products in
Canada to develop a new line of CNC Billet aluminum and Steel 4 bolt
main caps for the SB Mopar race blocks THAT ACTUALLY FIT correctly right
out of the box unlike some of their competitors. Keep an eye out for
pics of these new caps.
Also I want to extend congratulations to all of our customers on their
recent overall finishes in the 2005 Chrysler Classic event series, and a
couple in particular. Congrats to Dan Trainer Jr. on his 2nd place
overall finish in the Pro category running Shady Dell hand ported Stage
3 Edelbrock heads, with a season best 10.13 @ 128 MPH at the INDY event,
also to Rick Rondy who finished 8th overall in Pro running Shady Dell
CNC W5 heads, ported INDY intake and camshaft design, running 9.90's @
133 in full street trim.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our site, don't hesitate to email or
call with any questions/concerns, and we look forward to supplying all
of your Small Block Mopar race engine needs in the future. Ryan J.
Click
the links on the left to see information on some of the services we
offer. We are a cylinder head porting shop first and foremost,
but are also fully equipped to handle any small block Chrysler cylinder
head machining operation, including head repairs, TIG welding etc. We
also build custom one off street/race engines on an individual custom
order basis, and we also take pride in our knowledge of the more
“exotic” small block Chrysler arena. So, if the more exotic W7, W8, W9,
W9 RP, P5 or P7 series of Mopar Performance cylinder heads are what you
are looking to work with, we have the knowledge and experience to help
you locate and use the right parts THE FIRST TIME. We have many contacts
in the 48 degree SB Chrysler engine world, and our supply of 48 degree
race heads/parts is constantly changing. So, from mild pump gas street
engines to 800+ HP 48 degree race engines, we want to be your source for
all your small block Chrysler needs.
If you have any questions at all,
please don't hesitate to call or email us for more information.
